The Knights of St. John International and Ladies Auxiliary is a Roman Catholic men and women fraternal organization that stands for Roman Catholic Virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity under the banner of Fraternity.
The Knights of St. John International and Ladies Auxiliary exemplify the theological virtues of the Roman Catholic Faith. We are men and women of faith in the sense that we have the conviction and the experience of existence, the value and the importance of the unseen realities, and our total life and activity are built upon God.
“Faith is the act of the intellect assenting to a Divine truth owing to the movement of the will, which is itself moved by the grace of God” – St. Thomas Aquinas
The Knights of St. John International and Ladies Auxiliary live out their Catholic faith that what they believe influences the way they live their lives.
For in hope, we were saved. Now hope that sees for itself is not hope. Our hope centres on the risen Christ and on his victorious return in the parusia in which the perfect restoration of all things will be achieved. Our joy and zeal emanate from this hope – Romans 8:24
Bestowed on us at Baptism, hope can be defined as a future good, difficult to obtain, but entirely possible. Hope sustains Knights/Ladies of St. John through periods of trial, tragedy, and difficulty, that one day we will see the glory of God.
…Amen I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:40
From the Latin caritas, The Knights of St. John International and Ladies Auxiliary are devoted to acts of charity, both personally and within the order. The habits of charity exist not only in the love for God but also in the love of our neighbour.
John the Baptist was the son of Zachary, a priest of the Temple in Jerusalem, and Elizabeth, a kinswoman of Mary who visited her.
When he was thirty, he began to preach on the banks of the Jordan against the evils of the times and called men to penance and baptism “for the Kingdom of Heaven is close at hand”.
He attracted large crowds, and when Christ came to him, John recognized Him as the Messiah and baptized Him, saying, “It is I who need baptism from You”. When Christ left to preach in Galilee, John continued preaching in the Jordan valley.
Fearful of his great power with the people, Herod Antipas, Tetrarch of Perea and Galilee, had him arrested and imprisoned at Machaerus Fortress on the Dead Sea when John denounced his adulterous and incestuous marriage with Herodias, wife of his half-brother Philip.
John was beheaded at the request of Salome, daughter of Herodias, who asked for his head at the instigation of her mother. John inspired many of his followers to follow Christ when he designated Him “the Lamb of God,” among them Andrew and John, who came to know Christ through John’s preaching. John is presented in the New Testament as the last of the Old Testament prophets and the precursor of the Messiah. His feast day is June 24th and the feast for his beheading is August 29th
Through the intercession of our patron saint, St. John the Baptist, may our lives and actions be the voice of one calling out into the desert, preparing the way for the Lord. That we may humbly decrease, so that He may increase in our world.
Experience the affection and brotherliness of being part of a Commandery and an Auxiliary.
