THE NATIVITY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST

The Nativity of John the Baptist is celebrated in both the modern liturgical calendar and the traditional (1962) calendar on June 24th. In the modern Roman Calendar, the feast day is treated as a Solemnity, the highest ranking of the feast days. The observance begins with the vigil on the evening before the actual date of the feast. In the traditional rite it is considered a Feast of the First Class, in still earlier forms it was celebrated as a Double of the First Class with common Octave
