SHORT PROFILE – DAME JOSEPHINE SEY
Noble Sister Dame Josephine Sey trained as a certified “A” teacher at Holy Child Training College, Takoradi from 1958 to 1961. She taught for 2 years and proceeded to Winneba Training College qualified as a home science specialist and was posted to Koforidua from 1965 to 1978.
Between 1978 and 1980, she was posted to the Akim Oda District Office as the District Science organizer and continued from 1980 to 2004 as the pioneer head of now St. Mary’s vocational-technical institute, Asamankesi. Became an executive member of the Eastern Regional 2nd cycle schools sport Association until retirement in 2004.
Church Activities
Noble Sister Dame Josephine Sey was a member of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) for over fifty years and the first lady to take the national chair for three consecutive terms of 6 years and earned the title, of the most senior Crusader.
In the Knights of St. John International and Ladies Auxiliary, she rose through the ranks to become Grand President between 1991-1995. Became the first and only officer to hold the position of chairperson of a coordinating body (an interim body) Then the 1st Supreme Subordinate President and later the 1st African to hold the position of Supreme 2nd Vice President for three consecutive terms of six years.
Served on many church committees and rising to become a parish president in 2008. Was honoured by the Pope through the Diocese of Koforidua with one of the highest awards of the Church for the Laity-Dame of St. Gregory the Great.
The State
Was for several years a member of the Eastern Regional Youth Council, Koforidua. A member of the Eastern Regional Charter Committee during the Acheampong regime.
